The Real Path to Success

We see all sorts of perceptions of what the path to success looks like. More often than not, it’s very different to what the ACTUAL path to success looks like. We chat to our members in their regular Goal Reviews about this and lay it out for each of them.

Your Plan vs Reality

You’re going to make progress. Then you’re going to backtrack ALMOST to zero again…and maybe more than once Then you’ll make a bit more progress, and then you’ll backtrack ALMOST to the point you were last time. Progress, backtrack; progress; backtrack. Gain weight, lose weight. Get 20 unbroken Pull Ups, fallback to six again. You’re not doing anything wrong and it’s perfectly normal – we all go through it and have experienced it.

But here’s the reason to keep going: Every time you loop back, you won’t go quite as far backward as before. The loops get smaller. Just stay with it, book a Goal Review and chat to a coach.

You’ll also start to notice that you’re not backtracking quite as often as before. One day you’ll look up and think, “Wow, I’ve gone a whole year without gaining any major weight.” And when you have little bumps on your fitness journey, thinking this way will help you keep your perspective.

Many people get stuck in that first loop of fitness forever – you might even know someone like this; try something, make progress, fall off. Sometimes their programs, diets or tricks are unsustainable. Sometimes they’re boring. Sometimes they just don’t work. It takes consistently showing up to reap the rewards.

But usually, after six weeks, the exerciser is a bit further along. And even if he or she falls off, the fall won’t be ALL the way back.

Maybe after a tough holiday or holiday season of too much eating, drinking and resting (xmas is around the corner!), you’ve fallen backward. But you can still get back to your training. You can still show up. You haven’t lost your touch. And next year, when you fall back again, you’ll be even further ahead. You’re building a margin for lapses.

If for no other reason, go to the gym today because today’s problems are slightly less horrible than last year’s problems. I’ve been there.

Reach out to chat to our coaches and let us help you on your journey and fall off the bandwagon slightly less…at least this time you’ll have guidance, support and accountability on your side to help.
